With both San Francisco and Seattle pursuing legislation to ban or limit the distribution of the Yellow Pages, the Yellow Pages Association (YPA) has launched a website allowing individuals to opt out of receiving some, or all of the Yellow Pages directories.
To read more about the efforts to ban Yellow Pages directories, please see Facing a ban, Yellow Pages launches opt-out website posted by one of our favorite independent news sites, Environmental Headlines.com.
Opting Out Is Only A few Clicks Away
.
It’s easy to opt out of receiving Yellow Pages directories. Just visit www. yellowpagesoptout.com. The NewHartfordPlus Crew went there, registered with the site, and a few minutes later we had opted out of the four Yellow Pages directories delivered to New Hartford. With only a few clicks, we’ve now stopped those annoying directories that are periodically thrown into your front yard.
This is what the confirmation page looks like. Click on it to go to the Yellow Pages Opt-Out website.

The Exception to the Rule: Our Local New Hartford Telephone Directory
.
The Yellow Pages Opt-Out website does not include an option to opt out of the New Hartford Telephone Directory which is published locally by New Hartford Community Connections. This local directory is filled with useful information about our community and is an invaluable resource to the NewHartfordPlus Crew. And, most importantly, the proceeds from the sale of ads in this local directory go back to our community in the form of grants to local non-profits: a win-win for all!
For more information on Community Connections and for a copy of their grant application (deadline is May 1) visit nhcommunityconnections.org.

The Pine Meadow rink will be in top condition Sunday. A couple of the volunteer firemen fixed the nearby hose spigot, so Matt Hawkins and friend were able to apply a thin coating of water this evening; it froze immediately. This may be one of the last skating days of this season, so I hope lots of people will take advantage of the ‘Season Finale’ skating on Sunday – and hopefully Monday and Tuesday as well.

The plaza was closed when employees at various businesses reported hearing creaking and cracking sounds from the roof. The Barkhamsted Building Inspector ordered the building to be evacuated until the snow was removed from the flat roof. On Friday afternoon, the snow removal had been completed and the shopping center was allowed to reopen.
