The Bakerville Marketplace was blessed today with perfect weather, but even more, it was blessed with a great bunch of Bakerville residents who made the marketplace a real neighborhood affair. Our photographer and her husband motored over from the other side of Town Hill and they spent the next couple of hours browsing among the stalls, visiting with friends and deciding which teacup auction item would get one of their precious tickets. In the end though, it was the booksale held inside the old fire station next to the Bakerville Library that convinced our photographer to put away her camera and concrentrate on the serious business of browsing through boxes of books in search of the volumes she absolutely could not live without.
Following are a few photos from the marketplace that took place today, August 1. More photos can be found in our August 2009 Photo Album in our Photo Gallery. Many thanks to Bob, our techie, for taking on this additional task.
Note: Joan Auclair emailed us to let us know that the Bakerville Marketplace raised just over $3,900 for the benefit of the Bakerville Library. A great day’s work everyone!

And in case you think facepainting is only for the kids, Peter Anderheggen was seen sporting an expertly painted egg on his forehead while Elaine Carmelich and Phyllis Webb share a laugh with him. Photo: Maria Moore

Dan Jerram poses for a photo with Dan LaPlante who had set up his plants for sale at the marketplace. Our photographer and Dan Jerram were not at the marketplace at the same time. Many thanks to Alesia Kennerson for submitting this photo to us.

Some serious browsing and buying of books outside the old fire station building. The main action, though, was taking place inside the building, where residents were squeezing by each other to browse through the boxes of books neatly laid out for them on the tables. Photo: Maria Moore

Kathy White chatting with another resident in the colorful tent that was packed with items that were being auctioned off in the teacup auction. And yes: our photographer and her husband Bob did put tickets in for items they hoped to win, and they did win a toolbox, much to Bob's delight. Photo: Maria Moore
