H1N1 (Swine Flu) Clinic Update: The next clinic scheduled is for Saturday, December 19, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Avon Volunteer Fire Department, 25 Darling Drive in Avon. For more information about this clinic, please visit the Farmington Valley Health District’s H1N1 (Swine Flu) Vaccine (Swine Flu) Information webpage. The health district’s hotline will take appointments for the clinics from 8:45 a.m. until 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment, please call the hotline at: 860-269-6214.

  • The First Selectman’s Office at the Town Hall building will be OPEN today, Friday morning: First Selectman Dan Jerram will be in his office.
  • Town Hall municipal offices ~ other than the First Selectman’s Office ~ are CLOSED on FRIDAYS: The present closure of Town Hall offices on Fridays will continue until operating hours are reviewed by the new administration.
  • The New Hartford Schools Superintendent’s Office on the third floor of Town Hall is OPEN. If the doors are locked (on Friday afternoon?), and you need to go up to the Superintendent’s office (aka Central Office), please call Janet Condon at 379-8546 and she will let you into the building. Many thanks to Janet for helping to keep the Superintendent’s Office accessible to residents when Town Hall is closed.
  • New Hartford Senior Center: on the third floor of the Town Hall is OPEN. Seniors will have free access to the Senior Center from 9:00 a.m. For more information please call Jean Barnicoat at 860-379-3980 between 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays. Activities: Yoga Class: at 11:00 in the Senior Center.
  • Children’s Story Time at the Beekley Library: for 3- to 5-year-olds at 10:15 a.m. at the Beekley Library, 10 Central Avenue, New Hartford. For more information please call Andrea Gaedeke at the library at 379-7235.
  • New Hartford Lions Club Annual Holiday Party: at 6:30 p.m. at the Riverton Inn, Riverton.
  • Friday Night at the Movies: The Polar Express: hosted by the Rec Department at 7:00 p.m. at Berkshire Hall at Brodie Park, West Hill Road. Movie is free, refreshments are available for purchase. For more information, please see the Upcoming Events page on the Rec Department’s website.

Carleene Beaman, the manager at the old Waring building in Pine Meadow told our reporter yesterday, as she spoke about the different types of businesses that may be a good fit for the space and for the town. A net win for the town, for sure!
