The family cookout held last Friday at Berkshire Hall was the last sigh of summer for this year’s campers.
Small groups of family and friends gathered on the picnic tables and enjoyed the food and each others’ company while the youngsters, having eaten in double-quick time, moved in waves from one activity to another and on to another. The air was filled with the sound of children at play, laughing and calling to each other. Oblivious of the fact that camp was over and in just a few days, they would be standing at the bus stop, all scrubbed and dressed in their best, waiting for the bus to whisk them off to school, leaving camp and summer games, behind.
Berkshire Camp is the Summer Camp program run by the Recreation Department at Brodie Park. This year, the summer camp ran for 9 weeks with the following number of campers in attendance: Week 1 = 96, Week 2 = 106; Week 3 = 166; Week 4 = 181; Week 5 = 147; Week 6 = 145; Week 7 = 140; Week 8 = 130; Week 9 = 110. That’s an awful lot of kids to keep safe, happy and engaged, but that’s just what the camp staff managed to do. As Rec Director Dennis Minor confirmed: “No news is good news!”
Congratulations to Rec Director Dennis Minor, Rec Admin Assistant Carole Korzynski and all the Counsellors and Counsellors in Training who made this year’s camp such a fun experience for all the kids.
