Updated 9:00 a.m, Friday, August 10

Regular traffic patterns have been reestablished.

Addendum: At the same time that Route 202 West just before Brown’s Corner was closed due to the one-vehicle accident, local fire departments were also responding to a structure fire on Ramp Road off Powder Mill Road which is the first road on the right on Route 202 going west after the Route 44 and Route 202 intersection.

Many Thanks to the wonderful volunteer emergency personnel from Canton as well as New Hartford who responded to on a very busy day.

A report in the Register Citizen says that Route 202 is currently closed due to an accident between the Nepaug Reservoir and Brown’s Corner. According to that report, the road closure is due to a one-vehicle accident in which a tow truck hit a utility pole causing live wires to fall into the road. The accident caused a power outage in the Nepaug section of New Hartford, Burlington and Harwinton for several hours this afternoon.

Traffic is being rerouted from that stretch of Route 202. To go into Bakerville and Torrington, detour around the area by taking Route 44 into New Hartford Center and then taking Route 219 up Town Hill Road and rejoining Route 202 at the South End Fire Department intersection. For traffic from Farmington and Collinsville, continue on Route 4 (Spielman Highway) through Burlington and and take your most road to your destination.

We will update this report to give the status of the detour as soon as more information becomes available to us.

For more information read the report on the Register Citizen Route 202 New Hartford closed due to car accident.

New Hartford, Nepaug, Canton and Pleasant Valley FD responded to a house fire off of Satan’s Kingdowm Road yesterday right after we cleared from the motor vehicle accident on Rt 202.    Due to the rough terrain of the washed out driveway we had   to lay in 750′ of supply line to the vacant house.  Manpower and equipmetn were transported by Canton’s ATV.  6 hours later we finally returned to station at 11:15pm.  Great job by all the guys and our mutual aid companies.

Thanks!  I ran out of DDs to see the Nepaug truck go by and by the time I put my coffee down and grabbed by camera another truck came down Town Hill which is the one pictured.  It was then followed by a water truck so I knew something else was happening on top of the accident on 202.  THANK YOU so much for the great work you guys do for our town! Maria
