Here’s what’s happening in New Hartford and surrounding communities through the end of this weekend. Please be sure to sign up for events that require it and ALWAYS call ahead of time to be sure that the event is still taking place.

Today, Saturday, July 21
8:30 a.m.: Sizzlin’ Summer Tag Sale, North Congregational Church
The Sizzlin’ Summer Tag Sale continues for its second at the North Congregational Church. On Saturday it’s being held from 8:30 to 2 p.m. Free admission and parking. There will be household items, appliances, furniture, attic treasures, toys, knick-knacks and much more!
North Congregational Church is located at 17 Church Street North, behind the Post Office. For more information call the Church office at 860-379-2466.
9:30 a.m.: DEEP Preventing The Spread Of Invasives Training Session
The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) is continuing to offer training for people interested in volunteering their time to monitor local boat launches for the presence of invasive plants and animals, such as zebra mussels.
The training session will be held Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the New Hartford Town Hall, 530 Main Street in New Hartford from 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. For more information or to volunteer, contact Gwendolynn Flynn of the DEEP at 860-447-4339 or gwendolynn.flynn@ct.gov.

Head down to our local New Hartford Farmers’ Market on the Green at Chapin Park and you’ll be sure the best baked goods, vegetables, plants, olive oil, and so many other unexpedcted treat.

POSTPONED: Senior Picnic:
THE SENIOR PICNIC WAS POSTPONED DUE TO THE EXTREME WEATHER. THE PICNIC WILL TAKE PLACE TOMORROW, THURSDAY, JULY 19 AT 12 NOON AT THE SENIOR CENTER.

You need to have signed up already for this event; cost is $8 per person.
The annual Senior Picnic is this afternoon, Wednesday, July 18 at 5 p.m. at Berkshire Hall, Brodie Park. The menu will be barbeque chicken, potato salad, green salad, cole slaw, beet salad, and pasta salad. Coffee, tea, soft drinks and water will be provided. The food is being provided by the Foothills Delery; desserts will be brought by members of the Senior Center. CANCELLED: Concert At Brodie Park:
THE CONCERT SCHEDULED FOR THIS EVENING HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE SEVERE WEATHER
This evening’s concert at Brodie Park will begin at 6:30 p.m. The concerts are FREE and open to all.
Playing this evening will be Uncle Polly and the Family Jam, a rocking bluesy dance band. Their music consists of old rock favorites, blues, good time dance music, and some band originals. Just show up for this concert and remember to bring a blanket, a picnic basket and the whole family and enjoy an evening of community and fun while listening to some great music.

Thursday, July 19
12:30 p.m.: Senior Picnic:
The annual Senior Picnic was postponed from yesterday afternoon at Berkshire Hall due to the severe weather. The picnic will be held today at 12:30 p.m. at the Senior Center. 5 p.m.: Main Street Market Place, Torrington
The Main Street Market Place is held from 5 p.m. through 9 p.m. on – you guessed it – Main Street in Torrington and it’s well worth the drive! Every Thursday night during the summer Main Street is closed off to fill it with some of the best vendors around. Farmers’ market, music, and other events make this a fun stop for all ages. This week there will be a yoga demonstration and the Forbes Flyers.

Friday, July 20
11 a.m.: Origami Workshop At The Beekley Library:
For children 10 years or older. Program is FREE but you must sign up – places are limited. For more information call Ericka Bajrami 860-379-7235
Tina Santiago will be presenting an origami program geared toward children ages 10 and up at The Licia & Mason Beekley Community Library on Friday, July 20th, at 11:00 a.m.. Participants will make an origami project to take home, as well as one to leave in the library for display! Space is limited; please sign up in advance at the library or call 860-379-7235.
3 p.m.: New Hartford Farmers’ Market
Our local Farmers’ Market is being held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.ish on the Green at Chapin Park in Pine Meadow. This week’s vendors include:
- Barden Farm: Fresh Produce, Flowers, Pickles, Jams, Prepared Foods. Barden Farm will also have Sweet Pea Goat Cheese
- Beckwith Brook Farm: Fresh Produce, Jams, Pesto, Baked Goods. Beckwith Brook Farm will also have Jones Apiaries Honey
- Better Baking by Beth: Cookies, Breads, Pies and more
- Briarwood Farm: Fresh Produce

- MarWin Farm: Duck, Chicken, Quail
