Steele Road Reconstruction Set To Begin This Week

.
[The description of the portion of Steele Road is to be worked on has been clarified; many thanks to a reader of NewHartfordPlus; Sunday, July 15]

The reconstruction of a portion of Steele Road is set to begin this week, from Monday July 9 on, according to a notice posted on the town’s website.

The reconstruction will be from the Pine Hill Road and Steele Road north for about a mile just short of Hoppen Road, with apparently more overlay to be done from Hoppen.

During the reconstruction process, portions of Steele Road may be closed and detours may be in effect to allow the work to proceed. Please be on the lookout for construction equipment and workers and moderate your speed accordingly.

The drainage work will be carried out by Hemlock Construction and the repaving will be by Galasso Materials.

This reconstruction is being financed by a $225,000 special appropriation from the town’s reserve fund and from the remaining CRRA settlement funds which was approved at a Town Meeting in October, 2011; see our October 20 report Voters Approve Funding For Reconstruction Of Steele Road, Voice Concern Over Timing.

An additional $60,000 was approved for this project in the town budget for the 2012-2013 Fiscal Year which began on July 1, 2012.

A Note To Residents Re. Animal Control’s Phone #: ACO

.
Les Archer, the New Hartford and Barkhamsted Animal Control Officer posted the following note to residents regarding the correct telephone number on which to contact him regarding Animal Control issues:

Approximately 6 years ago we established a phone number specifically for Animal Control calls. The OFFICIAL number for animal control covering the towns of New Hartford and Barkhamsted is 860-309-7228. This number is posted on the internet, at both town hall offices, on both towns’ websites, also with the State Police and with the 211 info system.

Please use this number for any questions, concerns, complaints or any other reasons pertaining to animals in our communities. We can also be reached via email at k9.control@yahoo.com. Please, do not call my home and leave messages on my personal answering service. This will result in a very delayed response, and sometimes calls are missed.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

To keep up with the work of the New Hartford Animal Control officers visit the New Hartford Barkhamsted Animal-Control Facebook page.

The 2nd link in the article about the Steele Road construction is the same as the first link in the article.  Isn’t there a letter from Dan that is referenced?

      Thanks, it’s fixed now.
