Steve Joseph, a member of the town’s Highway Department, was struck by a falling tree limb and fell from the tree, hitting the ground head-first, an unofficial source told NewHartfordPlus today.

Steve Joseph

Steve was not working for the town at the time of the accident; he had taken the day off to work on a private tree-cutting job on Windsor Lane off Lair Road in the Nepaug/Bakerville section of New Hartford.

Steve was Life-Starred to Hartford Hospital where he is in the Intensive Care Unit. He is listed in critical condition.

More information will be added when it becomes available.

Please pray for Steve and for his young family. The NewHartfordPlus Crew

Steve was a good man and a hard worker. He will be missed . As to the individual that commented about OSHA… did your patents teach you about respect ? Even with all the safety measures these things happen! Also if you read the article he was at a private job .. not with the town.

Prayers to his family, I was hoping he would make it through.  I am a licensed arborist and have been climbing trees for 15 years, It’s really sad to see these things happen to good people. It really hits home being in the business.  Does anyone know any details?  Knowing what happens at these accidents is useful in preventing the same thing from happening again.  I can’t even imagine what his young family is going through. God Bless.

Does the Town of New Hartford offer its employees any OSHA training?
