The Town Government budget (also referred to as the General Administration budget) was the last of the three proposed budgets that make up the total New Hartford Town budget to be presented to the Board of Finance members at their Saturday-morning Budget Workshop.
The first budget, the New Hartford Public Schools Proposed Budget, was presented at the March 13 Board of Finance regular meeting; see our March 16 article for a copy of that budget and to watch the video of the local elementary schools’ budget presentation to the Board of Finance.
The second budget, the Northwest Regional # 7 Proposed Budget, was presented at the March 17 Saturday-morning Budget Workshop; see our March 20 article to watch the video of the Regional # 7 budget presentation to the Board of Finance.
The Town Government Proposed Budget was presented by First Selectman Dan Jerram. The Town Government budget, which makes up 20% of the total Town Budget, showed a 1.5% increase. However, when it was added to the other components of the budget (Debt Service, Capital Expenditures, Total Education) the overall increase in the total New Hartford Town budget was 6.5%, and increase which no one on the Board of Finance supported.
At the end of the First Selectman’s presentation, the Board of Finance members agreed that they would each consider the cuts they would like to see made to the budgets to bring the total budget in line with the increse that each member felt they could support.
The Board of Finance will hold a Special Meeting this evening, Thursday, March 22 at which they will hear a presentation of the proposed Capital Expenditures included in the total proposed budget, and then they will discuss cuts to the budget they propose making.
Below is the video of the First Selectman’s proposed General Government budget presentation and the questions put to him by the town’s Board of Finance.
