“Have you heard anything on the Blight front?”

A resident asked our editor as she shopped for groceries at Marandino’s on her way home from an 8-hour day at work. “No response,” she told him, making a mental note to make her weekly check down at Town Hall on this issue. Journalism is 99% background work to come up with 1% news worthy of publication; percentages based on the feelings of an overtired reporter, not on a poll of the three or so reporters covering New Hartford.

Contribute to the …NHGrapevine… Let us know what you’ve heard – or seen – in town and we’ll add it to this listing, and also add it to the …NHGrapevine.. section. So let’s hear what you’re hearing around town…

A butterfly bush, one of several in Norma Pappalardo's garden on Church Street North, is a magnet for butterflies and for our photographer who makes a point of checking out the butterflies on the bushes on her daily walk from the library on Central Avenue to the post office on the corner of Route 44 and Church Street North. According to the DEP, Connecticut's butterfly population is being sharply reduced due to factors such as deforestation, climate change and loss of habitat. Kudos to Norma for providing for the needs of some of our local butterflies. Photo: Maria Moore

I’m sure it is…Thanks again for all you’ve put into this site..Even if there aren’t a lot of responses, you can be sure there’s quite a few of us looking in and appreciating what you do..

Thanks! As a reporter, I dropped the ball on the survey, but NewHartfordPlus is cutting me some slack. Between when the Board of Selectmen agenda was released at 4:10 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, and the Monday evening meeting, I worked 14 at my paying work (in 2 shifts), 4 hours at the Business Council Stand, and 30+ hours on NewHartfordPlus – that makes it 48 hours+ in 4 days. Had I known the Town Hall hours were going to be on the agenda before Thursday afternoon, I would have actively solicited more input, but that information was not available. I made the decision – supported by Bob – that even when you drop the ball, you follow through, and so we published the results based on the input I’d collected through last Thursday. The criticism is well-deserved, my defense is acceptable to me, and life goes on! Thanks for pat on the back, Mike – I owe you a hug!
